Center For Sight is pleased to announce William J. Lahners, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been appointed as an Associate Medical Director for the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant and Research, based out of Tampa, FL. Lahners will also remain as the Medical Director and All-Laser LASIK, Cataract & Lens Replacement Surgeon at Center For Sight.
The Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research, Inc. is a nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to the recovery, evaluation and distribution of eye tissue for transplantation, research and education. The Institute’s Eye Bank, located in Tampa, Fla., is one of the largest combined eye bank and ocular research centers in the world.
“Restoring the gift of sight for my patients is my life’s work,” said Dr. Lahners. “There is absolutely nothing more precious than our eyesight. I’m honored to join the Lion’s Eye Institute distinguished team of associate medical directors to extend this mission worldwide.” Dr. Lahners’ prestigious leadership role at the Lions Institute is a voluntary year-long appointment. During this time, he will continue his passion of performing laser cataract surgery and All-Laser LASIK at Center For Sight and is currently accepting new patients.
Dr. Lahners is a Cornea fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in All-Laser LASIK, cataract and lens replacement surgery, and corneal diseases. He has been a principal investigator in several FDA trials involving cataract surgery, LASIK, pharmaceuticals, and corneal transplants. Dr. Lahners was awarded the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s prestigious Achievement Award for his research and presentations on cataract surgery and LASIK as well as being counted in the top 300 most influential ophthalmologists in the nation by Premier Surgery/Ocular Surgery News. He has also been consistently honored as one of America’s “Top Doctors” by the prestigious Top Doctors list, published annually by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.
