He has also been named by Bausch + Lomb® as an inaugural member of the Millennium Society. This Society is an elite group of twelve cataract surgeons from around the world who have implanted 1,000 or more Crystalens® lenses – the first and only FDA approved accommodating intraocular lens used to treat cataracts and presbyopia. Dr. Shoemaker is also among a select group of physicians who serve as FDA investigators for new ophthalmic technologies, including the revolutionary LensAR femtosecond laser system for laser cataract surgery. A Florida native, Dr. Shoemaker received his bachelor and medical degrees from the University of Florida, and completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Ochsner Clinic and Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. In 1983, Dr. Shoemaker established his practice in Venice, Florida. Today, Center For Sight is acclaimed as one of the world’s premier eye care facilities. Dr. Shoemaker is married with two grown children. He and his wife, Yara, make their home in Sarasota close to the water, where he enjoys his favorite pastimes of sculling, cycling and flats fishing.
